Create even toned underarms by summer in 3 simple steps

Beauty
I took a strengths assessment once and one of my strengths (as revealed by the results) described me as "futuristic." Meaning that I'm always thinking about and creating a vision what lays ahead.  So it's no surprise to me that I'm already wanting to plan for spring and summer even before the new year begins.

I'm not sure where it came from, but the idea came of seeing if it's possible to even out the skin color of my under arms.  They aren't exceptionally dark but I thought to myself "wouldn't it be great if I could make them more like the rest of my skin color"?

So off I went into the world of the internet in search of answers.  "Seek and you shall find."  The advice was pretty consistent so I'm confident in moving forward and adding the techniques into my routine.

Here's what I'll be doing:

First and foremost, I will give up the act of shaving using a razor.  Shaving doesn't reach the hairs below the surface of my skin which allows for stubble to appear almost immediately.  As we know, that darn stubble provides a shadow which gives the appearance of darker armpits. They also say that shaving promotes the buildup of dead skin cells as it tries to protect itself from the constant irritation of regular shaving.   So instead of razors, I have the option of waxing or using an epilator.  I'm a technology buff so I think I'll go with option 2. We'll see what happens.

Another contributor to dark underarms could be related to our deodorant. we're told to stay away from traditional deodorants that contain aluminum which has been linked to Alzheimer's disease and certain types of cancer.  A while back I switched to a natural deodorant which helps keep me dry without the harmful ingredients.  During my search I also learned that using Apple Cider Vinegar & water underarms can also help with fighting odor. I'll be implementing this step since I already use ACV as a toner.

Finally, I'll be adding exfoliation into my ritual.  I'm not sure why I haven't been doing this sooner!  You all know that I've discussed exfoliation numerous times. I thought my exfoliation routine was air tight until I realized that I was skipping my underarms.  Exfoliation will remove the dead skin that accumulates in that area and will reveal younger, brighter skin over time.  So as of this moment, I'll begin to exfoliate everywhere including my underarms.

That's it! Three simple adjustments to my current ritual and I'll have smooth, even-toned underarms by spring.

Give it a shot and let me know if it works for you.

  1. Laser hair removal in the underarms is extremely effective. That, plus Dove Cleartone antiperspirant. After 10 underarm treatments, you won't have hardly any under arm hair….you'll note significantly slower growth and less thickness after the second or third treatment. If you start in January and go every 6 weeks, by summer, you'll be able to go al summer without needing to shave. Best thing I've ever done for myself!

  2. First off all, sorry for my bad english :-(

I agree with Shika. Laser hair removal is very effective and the way to go. But if you dont want to waste all the money on LRH than go with waxing/sugaring (you will never ever go back to razor again TRUST ME, maybe sometimes.). This method will also decrease the hair growth on your underarms over time(and make hair thinner) and will "brighten" the colour of your underarms. You could do a mix of waxing/sugaring and epilator. Stay away from those ugly chemical underarms deodorants b/c all the chemicals made underarms darker over time (besides from the other side effects). I've even seen this "dark" underarms in many white people! The first weeks and month will be hard without chemical deodorant and maybe you will even stink a bit, but after that your body will be back in balance. The trouble is to find a good natural deodorant that works. You could also use coconut oil (b/c I know that mens doesn't like the smell of AV haha). 2x a week a scrub is also a very good idea, b/c it will remove the dead skin :-). And a healthy diet is, as always, also important.

You could try Fresca naturals deo from Australia. Or the German deocreme from Waldfussel (Waldfussel Sparkling smells like coca cola!!!! Soooo gooood).

Please note that natural deodorants will not stop the sweat, just the smell! But anyway why would someone like to stop the sweating? Sweating is healthy! Maybe just for special occasion days where it really would be embarassing to see the sweat on the white dress or something.

    xoxo

  3. Another great post Nadege! I recently switched from razors to waxing and noticed an immediate change in the color or my underarms. One thing I did NOT do was exfoliate and I started to get ingrown hairs. I got lazy and started going back to razor, but you've inspired me to go back to waxing and including exfoliation in the process.

Keep us posted on the natural deodorant. I switched to Tom's and it's ok, but wondering if there is something better out there.

  4. I’ve been using intimate lightening dermalmd serum for my underarms for almost a week now, the consistency is very thick and it takes a couple of minutes to absorb which I like. Even though I’ve used it for only a week I can notice the difference of my skin color being lighter, will be using it regularly.
