[TRY THIS] The Simple Trick that Transforms Your Dry Matte Lipstick into a Hydrating Powerhouse

Makeup
Back when the liquid lipstick craze appeared on the scene, I wanted in.  These colors were bold, had a high color payoff and looked great on women of color.  The first chance I got, I placed an order for a bunch of matte lipsticks from Colour Pop.

My first impression was that liquid lipsticks were phenomenal!  But, they had one drawback.  The final look was flat and left me with dry looking lips.  Soon thereafter, my liquid lipsticks were neglected for more hydrating options.  If only there was a way enjoy the bold look of matte lip color without the negative side effects.
As time when on,  I'm positive that beauty brands wised up and reformulated their products. But what about all the unused tubes currently collecting dust?

I think I've stumbled on a solution that turns my matte liquid lipsticks into ultra hydrating formulas.

The idea stems from a product that's been floating around on Instagram. It's a "dry oil" meant to be applied prior to makeup application for a dewy base.

Here's a glimpse

I wanted to learn more so I checked out their product description online.   You can imagine how excited I was to learn that I already had access to their main ingredient (rosehip oil).  But the kicker happened when I scanned the usage instructions and saw the recommendation to apply a couple drops to the lips before applying lipstick.

Immediately, the imaginary lightbulb above my head turned on.  I rushed over to my stash of beauty products and searched for those long lost liquid lipsticks.  But, instead of reaching for rosehip, I decided to try something different.  I keep my trusty bottle of squalane oil front and center because this product can do no wrong.  I'm honestly going to purchase a larger quantity so I can cover every square inch of my body in this universal moisturizer.

But I digress...

The experiment began with me swiping a tiny bit of squalane oil on my lips.  I pressed them together to allow the nourishing goodness to better penetrate.  Then came the big moment. I grabbed a tube of Color Pop's TooLips and prayed for the best.  The color glided on wonderfully.  There was no compromise in the color payoff.  My lips looked great!

**I added less oil than you see in the video**

Best of all, they felt ah-may-zing!  So hydrated and so soft.  And it didn't look like I was wearing oil underneath my lipstick.  The final outcome looked natural, not too glossy, not too matte.  It was perfect.  I'll be honest with you,  I probably gave up some of the long-lasting qualities of the original formula for this boost of hydration, but I don't care.  It's better than rocking dry painted lips all day.

I can always play around with using less oil. A little goes a long way.  And, did I mention how thankful I was for the reminder to incorporate natural oils into my winter makeup routine.  How could I forget that?! Instead of spending $40.00 on an illuminating foundation, why not make your own?

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I finally ordered some squalane and have used it for 2 days and I’m in love. It worked well under my matte lipstick and, I used it as a facial moisturizer and I was the least oily I’ve ever been in decades.
