One of the intentions I set at the start of my skin journey was to have skin so flawless that I'd never have to wear full coverage makeup again.  As my skin improved, I found myself reaching for my foundation less and less.  


I viewed this as a huge win but I no longer needed the help of heavy foundations to recreate the look of even skin.  But, instead of forgoing makeup altogether, I turned my attention to power foundations as a suitable alternative.  Powder foundations are great, especially if you're an oily girl.  Instead of covering discoloration, they sort of blur them away. 


I have 6 or so foundations in my rotation, but I only owned a couple powders. One was from Bare Minerals and the other from NYX.   I was pretty happy with the options I had, that is until I learned that Fenty Beauty finally added a powder foundation into their lineup.  I had no choice to buy it, and I'm glad so glad I did because Fenty's Pro Filt'r Powder Foundation is a must-have.

This weekend I went to the local farmer's market to get a little fresh air.  While strolling through the outdoor area, I came across a tiny little booth filled with pastries from a french bakery.  I heard a small voice that whispered "treat yo self" as I looked over the selection of goodies.  After a few moments of contemplation, I gave up and asked the guy, to lead me in the direction of their best-selling item.   He asked me what I liked and I revealed my weakness for almond croissants.  That's when his eyes lit up.  With a huge smile on his face, he advises me to try their chocolate-filled almond croissant because "you get the best of both worlds."


Obviously, I took his advice.   And, let me tell you, that chocolate-almond croissant was the highlight of my entire weekend.  


That story is meant to illustrate my excitement for a recent discovery. It's a beauty product that, like my chocolate-filled croissant, marries two amazing concepts into one holy grail must-have.

A brand new month awaits us. Have you set your lifestyle goals for the year ahead?  One area where I'd like to focus in 2021 is in maintaining my weight. Thanks to quarantine, I reached peak weight gain in 2020. Thankfully, I was able to shed the extra pounds and eventually reach a milestone that I hadn't experienced in years.


Going forward, I'm striving to maintain a healthy weight without thinking too much about if I'm exceeding my desired caloric intake. Today, I'll share this super-simple tip that's easy to do and has been proven to help promote a healthy weight.

If you've visited this blog before, you know that I'm a fan of infrared saunas.  I've talked at length about my personal sauna experience and that of others.  Lately, I've seen a few people I follow on Instagram share glimpses of them sweating in an infrared sauna.  The frequency with which I am seeing these stories prompted me to ask the question....is there a benefit to sauna during the cold, winter months?


The answer to that question is a resounding yes!  And I'm here to share them with all of you in hopes that you finally treat yourself to this amazing experience.

 A new year awaits us.  That's another opportunity to strive for our goals.  This week, I spent some time contemplating on some lofty goals that I'd like to achieve in the year ahead.  Setting goals is only half the battle.  Another important aspect of goal achievement is the process of getting there.   


Once upon a time, I attended a personal development seminar that successfully created real-life transformations.  At the end of the seminar, they encouraged us to sign up for another training program that promised even greater results.  To help convince the audience of its effectiveness, they invited past attendees to discuss all the success they achieved as a result of the training.  


Instead of signing up for the next seminar, I paid close attention to the testimonies to see if I could glean any powerful insights.  This was over 5 years ago.  But one goal achievement tip I learned that night has stuck with me ever since.

LED Face Shield Mask

A few years ago, I was introduced to the wonderful world of LED light therapy. At the time, LED masks were just entering the beauty space as the hottest must-have. Celebrities were posting selfies featuring their own personal LED masks purchased exclusively from their estheticians. I looked around at pricing and, at the time, the most popular brand was going for somewhere around $1,000.

Needless to say, I decided to wait patiently for the prices to make sense. Sometime later, I found a generic version of the infamous Desse mask at a far more reasonable price. Once I had the mask in hand, I questioned whether a mask with a bunch of tiny colored light-bulbs would actually work to change my skin.

In reality, it did. Although I didn't use it as consistently as I should've, I always noticed a difference when I wore the mask vs. when I neglected it. But, alas, the mask broke after my clumsy self dropped it.  Recently, I stumbled on an image of Kourtney Kardashian wearing a newer, more modern version of the LED mask. I was intrigued and immediately wanted to know more.

When I first got into the process of personal development, I realized that a big part of reaching your goals and achieving success was fueled by being consistently motivated. At one point, I sought to learn from the most self-motivated people I could find. These people seemed to be able to tap into an endless source of internal motivation that most of us only dream of.

I tried to become one of those people....and failed miserably.

I just never seemed to consistently muster up the constant flow of self-motivation needed to crush my goals on a daily basis. Not having an endless source of self-motivation to tap into was frustrating. Once you label yourself a non-motivated individual, it all goes downhill from there.


Thankfully, I realized that being motivated isn't an innate gift that a select few are blessed with. In fact, I believe that the most motivated people have mastered one technique that I will share with you today.

The other day, I came across a video of Laura Harrier's multi-step nighttime beauty routine. I've followed Laura on IG years before her recent rise to stardom. A while back, I wrote an article about how she swears by honey masks to treat her skin. You can imagine how excited I was when I stumbled on a video featuring her entire nightly routine. 


Whenever I watch these "Go to Bed with Me" videos, I don't lend my full attention to the products use. Instead, I observe for any key takeaways that I can apply to my routine ASAP. Laura's routine certainly had a few precious gems that we all can benefit from.

When the pandemic first began, I had a difficult time adjusting to all the changes happening at once.  As soon as my husband started working from home, we overindulged in our eating which resulted in unwanted weight gain.  By the end of March, I reached my heaviest weight.  

Eventually, I came to the conclusion that I had to do something.  But, I was feeling unmotivated.  I've always had an ideal weight goal in mind but was never able to reach it.  So, instead of using the number as my means of motivation, I decided to try a different, more powerful strategy.   Based on past experience,  my ideal weight number wasn't really an effective tool to drive weight loss because it wasn't bringing me any closer to my goal.

I needed to try something different.

The one thing I regret is not sticking to a well-developed morning routine.  Everyone knows that executing a powerful morning routine can absolutely change your life.  Ideally, my morning routine would look something like this:

-wake up early
-pray, meditate, journal
-exercise
-create a daily action plan
-conquer the world.

But, in reality, my morning consists of waking up, scrolling through Twitter then getting up and walking directly to my computer to start my day.  

Not very inspiring at all.  

Once I realized that I was in a rut, I decided to do something about it.  Instead of doing a full overhaul, I decided to take the easy route and institute a single morning habit that was effortless but would produce a host of benefits.

I love learning about manifestation techniques.  The secret to manifesting successfully is finding the right technique that's simple and works.  Today I bring you a new method to practice.  And this one is pretty awesome.

This manifestation tip is brought to you by Australian actor Hugh Jackman.  Hugh has an extensive career that spans over 20 years.  In a recent podcast interview with author, Tim Ferris, Hugh revealed the advice from his dad that led him to craft a powerful daily manifestation practice.

His dad's instruction was clear, he urged Hugh to "always check in that everything's ok."  Most of us simply respond "yes" to that piece of advice and move on.  But Hugh opted to create an entire manifestation routine to ensure that he'd always follow his dad's words of wisdom.  Trust me, this routine is so good that you'll definitely want to try it for yourself.

For the past several years, the biggest thing in makeup was the highlight.  Your makeup look wasn't complete until you dusted your cheekbones and adequate amounts of highlight.   Heck, I even remember when the girlies were dabbing the tips of their noses with highlight just for the sake of it (is nose tip highlight still a thing?)

For the most part, the trend of overly highlighting the face has calmed down a bit. Now, it's all about a healthy, dewy face that shows off your amazing skin.  This creates the opportunity to place more focus on our beautiful features.

Wearing protective face masks every day has really caused me to finally focus on the part of my beauty routine that I've been pretty much ignoring.....my eyes.  When the bottom half of your face is covered up, all attention land on our eyes by default.

At my big age, I should have a robust anti-aging routine for my eyes.  But I don't.  Sure, I rub a little facial moisturizer into my eye creases, but that's about it.  Before I invest hundreds into eye creams, I thought I'd take an internal approach instead.

Back when my skin was an absolute mess, it was darn near impossible to find a skin expert who also specialized in treating dark skin. I put in countless hours of research to discover a woman on the other side of the country who was revered for creating beautiful skin for black the biggest names in Black Hollywood.

I couldn't wait for summer so I could take advantage of longer days.  In my mind, longer days would provide the opportunity to fit in everything I wanted and needed to do within 24 hours.  Unfortunately, this hasn't been case.  I often find myself wishing I completed a few more items off my list. 

Most of what needs to get done falls into two categories.  The tasks that come with little/no resistance and the ones that I have a mental struggle in getting done.  Honestly, getting over the resistance is half the battle.   Most of the time, the task itself isn't that bad.

How many times have you forced yourself to do something only to realize that it wasn't as dreadful as your mind pictured it would be?

Since sheet masks came into my life, I've always wondered if there was a way to bottle that deliciously hydrating serum.  Heck, at one point I was bottling the stuff myself.  But I was never able to collect a large enough amount to create the type of access to pure sheet mask serum I wanted.

There a ton of serums out there to choose from.  But they always come in mini 1 or 2 oz jars.  This triggers my scarcity mentality that forces me to use tiny amounts on my face.

 So my search began for a sheet mask formula in a bottle.  I wanted a serum that was as hydrating as a sheet mask but in a full-size container.  I wanted the opportunity to use it on my face and body, as needed, without the fear of running out too quickly.

Just weeks before the quarantine began, I had finally mustered up enough motivation to visit gym regularly again.  I was so certain that I'd build muscle tone by summer but, unfortunately, my plans were foiled.  As soon as the lockdown orders were in place, I found myself stuck in a house with no gym access and an ample supply of junk food.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out what happened next.

My weight ballooned up to levels that I haven't seen a long while.  Eventually, I came to my senses and went back to eating like a normal person again.  Naturally, some of the weight came off. But I needed to incorporate a little exercise to burn off extra calories due to lack of activity.

As soon as I sought to find some at-home workouts that could tone up my midsection, I stumbled on a forum where a few ladies were discussing the astonishing results from a certain fitness Youtuber.  Although I enjoyed reading their comments and reviews, it wasn't quite enough for me to jump headfirst into doing her targeted workouts.

That was days ago.

This morning, I logged on Instagram and was greeted by another happy individual singing the praises of Chloe Ting's workouts.

At that point, I had no other choice than to jump on the Chloe Ting ab transformation train.

In my opinion, mastering the Law of Attraction requires 2 parts.  First, one must understand the principles and philosophies. Once you know how the law of attraction works, you must implement the universal law via a series of repeated actions.  Just knowing how the law of attraction works isn't enough. Putting those principles into action is where the magic happens.

This morning I learned of a manifestation exercise that a bunch of people swear by.  Some manifestation techniques are harder for some people vs others.  But the technique I learned today, anyone can do.  A ton of people claim to see results in as little as five days (or less) using this simple method.

Lori Harvey trended on Twitter this week after posting a reveal of her ultra toned summer body.  While everyone was discussing her near-perfect figure, I was more interested in a different reveal.

Not long ago I promised to incorporate frequent washing into my regimen to reap all the benefits that come along with it.  Even though I knew this was the right decision, I still hesitated.  Why? Because deep down I dreaded the thought of enduring the most dreaded part of my wash day --detangling.

You see, I rarely use a comb or brush in between washes.  This means that I have my work cut out for me on wash day.  In the past, I had the support of my trusted double row Conair detangling comb.  But, after it lost a few of its teeth, that comb was no longer of any use.  Once I learned that Conair discontinued that comb, I lost all hope.

But, today is a new day. And, today, I'm here to spread the good news of a new detangling comb that has restored my faith in wash days again.

Sometime last year, my husband and I made a quick list of all the places we planned on visiting in 2020.  On Jan 1, 2020, we booked our first escapade which was supposed to take place in April.  Obviously, the trip didn't happen.  And neither will the other vacations we talked about.  Ultimately, we've accepted the fact that we probably won't travel for at least a year or two.

At first, I was really bummed.  But then I had a random thought that completely changed my thinking....vacations are great for a multitude of reasons, but they're expensive.  We would have spent thousands on flights, room & board, food, etc.  That money can now serve a new purpose.  If allocated properly, that money could be utilized to create something new.

Lately, I've had a few conversations with ladies who've chosen to make the most of this mandatory time at home.  There's already talk of certain states opening back up in the near future.  There's no telling when we'll have the opportunity again to have unlimited time to work on ourselves with very little distractions.

Although I've been aware of the Law of Attraction for over a decade, I've only really put it into daily practice fairly recently.  If you study the principles of LOA, you're pretty aware that there are several techniques that most people utilize.

I'm sure that many of you are familiar with vision boards, journaling, visualization, etc.  All of those techniques can create decent results, but I'm here to introduce you to a specific method that I've used successfully for a while now.  It works so well that it's become my primary LAO strategy.  Hopefully, this method will produce spectacular results for you as well.

If you asked me if I set specific goals for 2020, I would proudly answer "yes!"   But if you asked a follow-up question of whether I had a clear vision of the outcome of each of my goals, I'd remain silent.

Truth be told, aside from writing down and reviewing my goals, I neglect to take the next step necessary to ignite the reality creation process.  My mind doesn't have a clear image of what my goals actually look like in reality.   This image is crucial because it acts as a compass to guide you in the direction you need to go.

During this quarantine, a lot of people have challenged themselves to acquire a new skill/habit.  If that's something you want to do, I encourage you to consider adopting creative visualization as an easy habit to implement.

How's your skin holding up?

If your skin is anything like mine, you probably noticed a slight decline in the health and vibrancy.   That's probably because staying at home all day causes us to be slightly less regimented when it comes to our skin routine.  For instance, if I'm going to a gathering or headed to date night, I put in a bit more effort to bring out my best glow.

But if I don't have to present myself publicly, I know I can get by with less.  Before I know it, my skin gets congested and things start to go south.  One observation I've made lately is how some of the ladies I follow really have amazingly healthy skin.  I'm seeing a lot of them without makeup and I must say that I'm impressed.

They've helped remind me that vibrant skin should be a norm (even when you're sitting at home with no-where to go).  My skin can definitely benefit from a little boost, so I've decided to reinstitute a habit that is pretty much guaranteed to turn everything around.

Recently, Love Is Blind star, Lauren Speed, posted a giveaway on her feed featuring a facial device that her fans have been asking her about.  Apparently, she featured the device in her stories and got a ton of questions and comments in response.  Because of the incredible demand, she decided to host a  giveaway.  Lauren has amazing skin so I understand why everyone was dying to know about her skin secrets.

As soon as I saw an image of her favorite beauty device, I wanted one.  A quick search was all it took for me to discover the exact brand so I grab one for myself.

During this time of quarantine, it's really tempting to stock up on a bunch of non-perishable snack items and to frequent the drive-thru since it's one of the few types of business still operating.  But today I want to make the case for eating more fruits and veggies.  Not just because they'll help you ward off that quarantine weight, but because they contain a chemical compound that could actually help play a critical role in helping to fight the damaging effects of the virus.

Prior to the start of the nationwide quarantine, I learned something critical about how my daily habits fuel my unproductive behavior.  As soon as I learned the root cause of my lack of motivation, I went straight into action to make immediate changes.  Since those changes have been implemented, I've experienced a huge surge in motivation and productivity.

The solution is simple, but also difficult.  There's a little bit of willpower involved but, I promise you, if you commit to giving this a try, you will not regret it.

Earlier today, my skin was dry & dull.  But now it's smooth and hydrated thanks to Halle Berry.  Yes, Halle Berry, the 53-year-old actress who still holds beauty inspiration status 'till this very day.  We've been waiting forever for Halle to reveal how she maintains her beautiful skin and youthful appearance.

Shorter, colder days just don't mesh well with extensive wash day routines.  So I pretty much tried to avoid them whenever possible.  But now that we've got a few additional hours of light each day, and I'm pretty much home all day, I thought now would be as good of a time as any to institute frequent washings into my routine...and why you should too.

I've been running my business from home for 5 years.  Even before leaving my job, I worked from home with my previous two employers.   I will never forget the day working from home.  I nearly had a panic attack because I didn't know what to do with myself.

Do I work from morning to night?
Do I clean my house in the middle of the day?
If I had to run an errand, was I stealing time?

Until I had somewhat of a structure in place, I had a lot of anxiety about working from home.   This nationwide quarantine has brought back a ton of memories of the early days of working at home.  The more I think about it, the more I realize that I've strayed from a defined structure that supports the very best outcome of working from home.   Now is the perfect time to get back on track.

The coronavirus outbreak has pretty much taken over the media.  All the updates about new cases and infection rates could cause high anxiety.  Based on the little we know so far, it's somewhat likely that many of us to come in contact with the virus.  Because many hosts are symptomless, we could be interacting with infected individuals without even knowing.

Thankfully, most of the people who will be infected with Covid-19 will experience mild symptoms.  The hope is that our immune system can effectively combat the virus.  The stronger our immune system, the greater the chance for a full recovery.

Years ago, I enjoyed an amazing, nutrient-rich smoothie every morning.  I tried my best to include as many superfoods as humanly possible into my daily smoothie.  I searched high and low for the perfect ingredients to boost up my morning drink.  The two must-have ingredients that I always included were spirulina and chlorella.

Once I took on a busy position that included lots of travel, I no longer had the luxury of making smoothies at home every morning.  Eventually, my diet no longer included blue-green algae.  I've now rectified the situation by restocking on both spirulina and chlorella.  After I share some of the amazing benefits of these amazing superfoods, you'll be just as obsessed as I am.

With spring quickly approaching, I've been very vigilant for inspiration to update my wardrobe.  It gets pretty hot where I live so I'm always thinking about how to stay cool in nearly 90-degree weather.  I pretty much live in tank tops.  But, if I were being completely honest, I admit that my tanks aren't really that stylish.

Sure they look ok if I layer a little cardigan or something over it.  But I want tops that look perfectly stylish on their own.

A couple of years ago, I developed the intention of increasing how much money I made by reducing my monthly expenses. For a long while, I mainly followed the principle of raising your income instead of budgeting.  While focusing on raising my income was great, I eventually became weary of how much money I was spending monthly.  I wasn't really buying a bunch of lavish things.  The expenses mainly consisted of stuff like updating our house, helping family members and, and other expenses that were deemed to be necessary. 

One day, I did the math and figured that I could save a nice chunk of change if I paid off my student loan and eliminated a few other recurring expenses. With laser-focused intensity, I got rid of my student loan, refinanced my home (twice) and got rid of a bunch of other on-going expenses.  In the end, I was certain that I'd have a lot of money left over for discretionary spending.  In actually, the opposite happened.

Instead of having a lot of money left over to play around with, it seemed like the money was nowhere to be found.  Perhaps it was absorbed by unexpected expenses that showed up out of nowhere.  But I have another theory about what exactly happened....

Although spring isn't here yet, I've already had the pleasure of experiencing some pretty warm days.  The moment I'm exposed to warmer temperatures, I automatically start thinking about prepping for summer.  More specifically, I like to focus on detoxing before summer hits.  Why? Because I have this theory that everything sort of slows down during the winter months. Our metabolism slows, circulation slows, cell turnover slows and so forth.

When warm weather finally arrives, we start to sweat again, oil production peaks causing us to suffer some unwanted side effects like acne, unflattering body odor, and congestion.  This year, I plan on adding a new ritual to my summer hygiene routine that I think will have some amazing benefits.

I've made a conscious effort to temper my desire to want to buy every beauty product available.  Lately, I've tried to make purchases of items that I believe will be sure bets. More importantly, products likely to become long-term staples.  One such product, I've never spoken about until today. But I've longed to get my hands on this cult favorite for a while.

Last year, I wrote an article about how I was all about balms.  The older I get, the drier my skin becomes and balms really add that extra bit of oomph when it comes to sealing in moisture.  All the balms I purchased were great.....I hadn't found the one.

Thankfully, fate awaited me at a local Marshall's as I was introduced to the beauty balm of my dreams.

The closer we get to summer, the more we begin to think about how to shed those extra pounds from the holidays.  Losing weight can be frustrating sometimes, even when you feel like you're doing everything right, sometimes the weight just seems to stay put.   Well, today I bring you some encouraging news.

I have a love-hate relationship with my lips.  They're full, prominent, and should be a highlight of my face.  Instead, I've neglected them.   Barely doing anything other than wearing lip balm in response to excessive dryness or covering them with bold lip color on date nights.

My neglect actually produced the aspects of my lips that I disliked the most. I hated the dryness and mild discoloration. I just wanted soft, flesh-toned lips that looked amazing with our without lipstick.

And now I have the routine that gives me exactly what I want.

It's been said that we only utilize 10% of our mental potential.  One of the reasons why I loved Limitless so much is because it explored the idea of what happens when we access the remaining 90%.  Personal development books are focused on helping us to unlock our "unlimited potential." 

I'm all for the idea of opening the doorway that unleashes our infinite potential, but I find it sometimes hard to sustain operating at max output for long periods of time.  Instead, I'd like to play with the idea of tapping into our potential instead.   Think of your unlimited potential as an extremely large sum of money.  Instead of trying to blow it all at once, maybe we find a way to access large portions of it on a daily basis. 

Wouldn't that be awesome?

I have a tea drawer at home that's chock full of various types of tea I've amassed along the way.  Yesterday, as I reviewed the contents of the drawer, I realized that, aside from bamboo tea, none of the other options on hand could produce external benefits.  Sure, green tea is excellent for overall health, but I'd also like to incorporate other varieties that promote a noticeable glow.

Less than 24 hours after stating my intention to expand my beauty tea collection, I stumbled on a screenshot that I took months ago and completely forgotten about.  The image featured a story shared by Sheneka Adams.  Sheneka is a business owner and "Level Up" coach.  She often shares glimpses into her beauty favorites.  In previous posts, I've featured Shaneka's favorite hand cream and the collagen chews that she loves.

When she first shared her story on how much she loved barley tea, I thought..."that's interesting" but didn't look into it any further.  After checking out what others have to say about barley tea, I was sold.

I went to high school in the '90s.  Back then long lashes weren't really a thing.  No one wore false lashes and lash extensions weren't even invented yet.  But, there was this one girl who had these super long barbie lashes that I was obsessed with.  Based on a visual inspection, her lashes were absolutely real.  They were long and spidery and made her eyes look large and doe-like.  She was very much a tom-boy in how she dressed. Everything was baggy and oversized.  But she balanced the boyish style by always keeping her hair in neat box braids and framing her eyes with her extraordinary lashes.

Here's the thing, about mid-way through a school year, an Afro-Brazilian girl transferred to our school. She had a heavy accent and it was obvious that she wasn't yet indoctrinated into American culture.  Within a short time, she and the girl the amazing lashes became great friends.  Then something interesting happened.  The new girl started looking more and more like my friend with each passing day.  She too wore box braids and baggy gear.  It wasn't long before her lashes began to look amazing.  I ever ran into my friend from high-school again, the first thing I would ask her is to divulge her eyelash regimen.  Because after seeing the new girl completely replicate the look, I knew there was a method to her results.

Sadly, I've never been able to recreate the look from mascara alone.  But, thanks to modern technology, I may have another option that may work just as well.

Ever since I wrote the article not long ago about body serums, I've had intentions to try a few of the options available on the market.  Unfortunately, I have some other wish list purchases that take priority so I had to improvise.

Winters are torture for my skin. As soon as the humidity drops, everything goes south.  Each year I'm plagued with dry, itchy legs and thighs.  The itchiness is so intense that I sometimes end up actually creating surface-level scars on the skin.

I've tried to address the itchiness with lotion but it's a losing battle.  But last night a tried a combination that turned out to be absolutely amazing.
