What to do to make the second half of the year awesome

Motivation
Tomorrow marks the first day of June.  Although technically, June 1 isn't the middle of the year, I still designate it as the halfway point.  Six months ago, many of us were mapping out the direction of 2016.  Let's not wait until year end to see if we'll achieve our intentions.

Now is the perfect time to stop and conduct a mid-year review.  I know some of you have heard that term before.  It's where we look at our performance for the first part of the year and make necessary course corrections to ensure we arrive at our intended destination.

Hopefully, you've already set some goals for yourself this year. If you haven't, now is the perfect time to create your new destiny.

Maybe you did set intentions back in December.....but haven't looked at them since then.  Don't worry, it happens to the best of us.  But it's half time now and time to get back in the game. Half time is when we head into the locker room and get refocused. If we're ahead, then we create strategies to make sure we finish the second half strong.  But, if we need to make up ground, the second half is when the time to do it.

A good format for your mid year review is to first focus on at what's working well.  As you identify what's going well so far, take a moment to determine why you're seeing good results in that area. When I did a quick assessment of my current situation, I realized that favorable results were mainly happening in the areas where I developed a habit of taking regular action.

Other goals I've ignored completely.

That's when I have to be honest with myself.  Are these real goals or are they simply a wish? A wish is when we say we want something, then sit back and wait for a magical fairy to wave their wand to make it come true.  It requires absolutely no action on our part.  When I realize that I'm not doing anything to move towards an intention, I have to ask myself, "Is this really something I want to experience, or is it something only I say I want."  Kinda like when I go shopping and see something cute on the rack, but after checking out the price, I walk away.

If I choose to actually buy the item, I must pay for it.
Action is the currency required to experience our goals.
With this in mind, it's time to determine where I'm gonna put in work  for the last half of the year so by 2017, I can move on to new adventures.

For the last half of the year, I plan on really focusing on my RECAPS.  Basically, a recap is where I look back and my actions & results to determine what worked well and what didn't.  I've done end of the month recaps for as long as I can remember. More recently, I've increased the frequency to a once a week review.  By reflecting on my actions once a week, I find that I'm able to remain focused on what I'm trying to achieve.  One of my past business coaches asked us to do a daily recaps to evaluate the effectiveness of our day.  I'm still not doing this consistently yet but it's one of my goals for the second half of the year. I'm pretty certain that this habit has the power to transform pretty much all the areas of my life.

June 1 is awesome because it's like a mini reset.  Maybe you haven't been actively pursuing your goals yet. No worries, the second half is about to start.  It's anybody's game, you can come back from behind and still claim your victory.

  1. I'm working on a post on crushing goals in the remainder of 2016. It's amazing how much focus it takes to reach our goals and be successful. The rest of the year is going to be fabulous - cant wait to see what you have in store for us.
